Unlike the “foils” of the Imoca 60, the “foils” of the FB3 will have a profile directed towards the inside. Its operation is different: these are multipurpose “foils” that generate the anti-drift and improve the moment of straightening the boat without increasing the displacement, which improves the performance of the boat.
The Figaro BENETEAU 3 is the first monotype monocoque with serial “foils” ever imagined. Concentrated on technology and innovation, it is the result of a collaboration between the best experts of the BENETEAU group and the architectural firm Van Peteghem Lauriot-Prévost (VPLP), architects of the last three winning ships of the Vendée Globe. The prototype has been tested and the construction of the ship in series has been launched.

The loadbook defines the FB3 as a monotype as reliable as its predecessor, the FB2. It is equipped with “foils”, a more effective and freed ballast fairing, a finer and deeper keel, a delayed mast and a more assorted and larger sail plane.

THE KEEL
Profunda, con un velo estrecho, genera una estela mínima. El complemento de antideriva es aportado por los “foils”.

THE FAIRING
Made of sandwich foam, fiberglass and polyester resin, it responds to current designs. The ballasts have disappeared.

MAST AND PLANE OF VELAMEN
As in the Imoca 60, the delayed mast, guaranteeing a balance under sail, allows more effective sails to be adopted, and a stool is added. The loners will sail with a square main sail at the top, a genoa and a jib, but also a head spi (105m2 to get speed with weak winds) and a small gennaker.
